Trenching and utilities

Water lines, power, communications conduit, drain lines. If it goes underground, it needs a straight trench at the right depth with the right backfill. That is bread and butter work for us.

Layout before the bucket touches dirt

Good trenching starts on the surface. Runs get marked with layout paint and stakes, grades get shot with a laser, and utility locates get called in before anything gets dug. The photo on this page shows that stage on one of our own jobs: trench lines painted on a cleared corridor before the first pass of the bucket.

Depth, bedding and backfill

Each kind of line has its own required depth and bedding, set by code or by the utility that owns it. We dig to those specs, bed the line properly, and backfill in lifts so the trench does not settle into a ditch across your property a year later.

Working with your other trades

Most trenching happens alongside a plumber, an electrician or a utility crew. We coordinate with them directly, open the trench when they are ready and close it once the line is inspected and approved. You do not have to translate between contractors.
